Weston Hosts First-Round State Playoff Game

WESTON, Conn. – Weston hosts a first-round game Tuesday in the Class M boys basketball tournament. Tip-off against Hyde Leadership is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Weston High School.

The  16th-seeded Trojans (12-9) won their last four regular-season games to earn their way into the South-West Conference tournament. They lost their first-round game to Notre Dame of Fairfield, 64-45. No. 17 Hyde Leadership of Hamden (11-9) has won three of its last four games.

The Trojans got off to a 6-1 start under first-year coach Mike Hvizdo before injuries sent them on a five-game losing skid. Weston bounced back late in the year, beating South-West Conference champion Immaculate. That is the only loss all season for the Mustangs. Weston is also tough at home, where it went 6-3.

Weston is led by senior guard Max Molinsky, who averages 13.7 points per game. Senior center Lyle Mitchell averages 10.4 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. Charlie DiPasqualie (9.2 ppg) and Evan Blitzer (8.5 ppg) also are among Weston’s top scorers.

Tuesday’s winner will meet the winner of a first-round game between Enfield and Rocky Hill on Thursday at the higher seed at 7 p.m.
