GREENWICH, Conn. – Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich announced plans to perform the 1946 holiday classic “It's A Wonderful Life” as an old-time radio play during the weekend of Nov. 21.
Performances are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. in the John and Lennie de Csepel Theater on the Sacred Heart campus at 1177 King St. in Greenwich.
Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults and will be sold at the door.
Upper School students Elizabeth Bachman, Miranda Falk, Gabrielle Giacomo, Annaliese Hummel, Zsanelle Morel, Kiki Ventura, and Emma Wilfert make up the cast.
“Using live sound effects, the cast will recreate Capra's immortal classic, just as it would have been done 70 years ago, long before streaming online, DVDs or television,” said director Nancy Maloy. “The cast will transport the audience back in time, to a 1946 sound stage in New York City on a wintry Christmas Eve.”
The story has been performed numerous times in the radio-play format over the years, and James Stewart, star of the movie version, headlined four radio adaptations in 1947 (twice), 1949 and 1951.
Caroling and other pre-Christmas events are planned after the show.
