GREENWICH, Conn. -- Congregation Shir Ami in Greenwich is hosting Chanukah Live!, a multimedia Shabbat service and candle lighting, Friday, Dec. 11.
The reform Jewish congregation’s holiday event will take place at 6 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 1 W. Putnam Ave., Greenwich.
Chanukah Live! mixes old-world charm with contemporary pop culture, said its organizers.
“All the prayers and songs appear on a large screen so everyone’s hands are free to join in with clapping and singing and dancing,” said Rabbi Vicki Axe, the congregation’s spiritual leader.
A pot luck dinner will follow. The Shir Ami Rockin’ Band and Choirs will lead the Shabbat service and Chanukah candle lighting with traditional tunes and contemporary songs such as “Light One Candle” by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul, and Mary, and “Let it Glow” (to the tune of “Let it Go”).
Chanukah Live! is being chaired by Sara Meiri, with assistance from Linda Gratt, Ellen Reid, and Dahni Nisinzweig.
It is open to the community and all are welcome.
Admission is $25 for adults and $10 for teens. Children under 13 are free.
RSVP is required.
