Co-chaired by Jean Doyen de Montaillou, Michael Kovner and Leah Rukeyser, the event drew its inspiration from the popular PBS series "Downton Abbey." The show is set in a post-Edwardian era, beginning in 1919 and continuing (so far) to about 1924, and the Bruce encouraged guests to arrive in period attire. Making this a very festive evening indeed, most of the nearly 150 guests obliged.
The event’s décor was created by Carolyn Dempsey Designs and consisted of twinkling candles in mercury glass votive holders and exquisitely arranged flowers in subtle shades of white and pastel pink, perfectly placed in silver candlestick holders.
The sumptuous seven-course meal was catered by Abigail Kirsch Catering Relationships with live music from the Stamford Symphony Orchestra. A live auction consisted of four very special items: a late-Victorian amethyst and pearl bracelet; a Victorian 14k yellow gold sleeve links and studs, both donated by Betteridge; and two framed posters picturing the cast of "Downton Abbey," season five, and their autographs, donated by the producers of "Downton Abbey," Carnival Film & Television Limited.
