The Seven Deadly Sins: Pride will open on June 27 and run through Oct. 18 at the Bruce Museum of Arts and Sciences, 1 Museum Drive.
The exhibit is the first collaboration by the seven members of the Fairfield/Westchester Museum Alliance and will attempt to place the sin of “pride” within a historical context in an art exhibit.
“The Seven Deadly Sins have played a significant role in theology, literature and art since the Middle Ages,” said Bruce Museum Deputy Director and exhibit curator Susan Ball in a statement. “Pride, or superbia, represents the mother of all sins and the one from which all others arise -- the root of a many-branched tree. It’s a fascinating, intriguing subject, and we’re delighted to be presenting it at the Bruce.”
Complementing the exhibit with be several unique programs, beginning with the Superbia Soire?e from 6-8 p.m. on July 17 at the Bruce Museum. The after-hours event is open to public and grant special access to the exhibit and a host of activities such as a grown-up scavenger hunt and a specialized curator’s tour featuring the gallery’s artists.
The exhibit will feature a Puppet Show Family Day with the Magpie Puppets from 1-4 p.m. on July 19 at the museum. Craft activities will be available in the Museum’s Education Workshop. No reservations are needed, the event is free.
Other Fairfield County exhibitions in the Seven Deadly Sins FWMA collaboration currently open include: “Lust,” through July 26 at the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, 1701 Main St., in Peekskill, N.Y.; “Wrath – Force of Nature,” through Sept. 7 at Wave Hill, W. 249th St., in the Bronx; and “Envy, An Installation by Adrien Broom,” through Sept. 26 at the Hudson River Museum, 511 Warburton Ave., in Yonkers.
Opening later this summer is “Emilie Clark: The Delicacy of Decomposition,” which will explore gluttony from July 12 through Sept. 6 at Katonah Museum of Art, 134 Jay St., in Katonah, N.Y.; “Greed GOLD” running from July 12 through Oct. 11 at the Neuberger Museum of Art, 735 Anderson Hill Rd., in Harrison, N.Y.; and “Sloth,” from July 19 to Oct. 18 at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, 258 Main St., in Ridgefield, Conn.
