The screening is set for June 4, with the festival slated to run until June 7. There is a post-screening party planned at Restoration Hardware, located on Greenwich Avenue.
The documentary focuses on how a tight-knit group helped to create a media giant and how quickly it all unraveled. Interviews with the employees of Tower's first store in Sacramento, Calif., are featured, along with Russ Solomon, Stan Goman, Heidi Cotler, Mark Viducich, Dave Grohl, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen and David Geffen.
“It is an incredibly moving documentary that has impact for people of all ages. Colin’s skillful direction makes the incredible story of Tower Records come to life," GIFF founders Carina Crain, Colleen deVeer and Wendy Reyes said in a statement.
"I am so honored to have “All Things Must Pass” screen opening night at the Greenwich International Film Festival. This night marks a significant beginning for GIFF, and I am excited to be a part of it,” Hanks said in a statement.
As part of the opening night party, the Bill & Anne Bresnan Social Impact Award will award $10,000 to a director who promotes social change through their film work. GIFF board member Jenna Bush Hager will be the event's Master of Ceremonies.
UNICEF’S OneMinutesJr program will receive a percentage of funds raised at the festival.
