With the cooperation of the City of Norwalk’s mayor’s office, the Connecticut Departments of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and VFW, personal invitations have been sent to 800 Norwalk veterans, including recent veterans attending Norwalk Community College, to attend as guests.
The program includes folk songs, jazz, spirituals and patriotic melodies intended to reflect the history of our nation. The 100-plus members of the Greenwich Choral Society will be joined by New York City Big Band and baritone soloist Justin Ryan. The event kicks off with John Phillip Souza’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
City of Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling will read a proclamation paying tribute to all veterans for their service to our nation. During the performance, the audience will be invited to participate in a “Tribute to the Armed Forces.”
Created Aug. 31, 1949, the United States celebrates Armed Forces Day May 16 to honor Americans serving in all five military branches following the consolidation of the military services in the U.S. Department of Defense.
The Norwalk Concert Hall is at 125 East Ave.
