GREENWICH, Conn. – The Greenwich Art Society is having an opening reception for “Artful Serendipity,” a member exhibit featuring an assortment of acrylic and oil works by Lori DuBois-Caruso and Amy Kaplan from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Greenwich Art Society Gallery.

The exhibit is a curated collection of more than 40 abstract and seascape works depicting nature, color and inspiration on exhibit now through Saturday, Sept. 26.

The featured artists believe their meeting was orchestrated by serendipity, a "fortunate happenstance" or "pleasant surprise." By chance, or not, DuBois-Caruso and Kaplan met by repeatedly running into each other at a number of art shows and, as their friendship grew, they were pleasantly surprised to find their art is complementary in style and synergy.

They also share a love of nature, with portrayals of the shoreline, sky and foliage.

In conjunction with the exhibit, the reception will feature a silent auction for a special piece of art to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

DuBois-Caruso’s award-winning work has been exhibited at many juried art shows, including the Greenwich Flinn Gallery, Greenwich Bendheim Gallery, Stamford Art Association, Stamford Ferguson Library, Stamford Loft Artists Gallery, Westport Art Society, Art Society of Old Greenwich, Pequot Library, Carriage Barn Arts Center, Ridgefield Guild of Artists, Darien Arts Center, New Canaan, Saint Aloysius Parish and the NYC Architectural Digest Home Design Show.

Kaplan received her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Syracuse University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts. She is a member of the Coastal Arts Guild, the Westport Artist’s Collective and the Carriage Barn Arts Center. She is a board member of the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, where she enjoys connecting artists with local businesses to exhibit their work, and helping the guild in their mission to promote the visual arts and arts education.
