Original story: GREENWICH, Conn. -- Greenwich, are you ready to rock?

The third annual Greenwich Town Party kicks off on Saturday at 10 a.m. in what has quickly become one of the most anticipated yearly events in the town.

Although the forecast calls for rain, the Town Party will go on, rain or shine, according to event organizers.

The daylong festivities at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park will culminate with a headlining performance from Grammy-winning singer-songwriter James Taylor at about 8:30 p.m.

The sold-out festival will include six nationally renowned musical acts on the main stage and six local bands on the "town stage."

The day will also include activities for kids from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a "People's Choice BBQ Grill-Off," food and beverages from Greenwich restaurants, caterers and desserteries as well as community organization exhibitors.

And although tickets to get into the park sold out in just five minutes back in April, Greenwich residents can get in on the festivities in several ways.

A few "Fair Share" tickets will be on sale at the gates of the park. The $400 Fair Share tickets were introduced to give people a structured opportunity to secure entry to the event while simultaneously “throwing something in the pot” to help cover the actual costs of the event, according to Town Party organizers.

But Greenwich residents don't have to have a ticket to enjoy the day's festivities, either. The new free "Greenwich Town Party Rocks The Avenue" will take place in the parking lot of the Greenwich Board of Education Building on Greenwich Avenue.

"Rocks The Avenue" will start at noon and feature live entertainment from six local bands, kids activities from noon to 5 p.m., food and beverages from local vendors and food trucks and free popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones and lemonade for everyone.

Boat owners are also encouraged to park their vessels in Indian Harbor, where large, high-definition screens will face the harbor and display the main stage performances from Roger Sherman Baldwin Park.

And even if you can't get downtown, you can listen to the day's festivities live on radio on WGCH-AM from 9:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.
