Active Auxiliary Police Officer Mark Dorfman succumbed to cancer on Saturday, March 5 surrounded by his family in Florida. He was 77.

He was sworn in as an Auxiliary Police Officer May 24, 1999 and at the time of his death had recorded 6,601 volunteer service hours to Clarkstown Police Department and the Town of Clarkstown.

From traffic and crowd control details at community and school events, to a myriad of assignments including residential house-checks, safe shopper patrols, Gate Night and Halloween Safety Patrols, supplemental patrols at schools, houses of worship, and parks, he selflessly gave of his time.

Dorfman is described by his peers as a dedicated man always giving 100 percent, leaving everything better than when he found it.

The Auxiliary Police Unit will add his name to its Memorial Plaque in the lobby of the Clarkstown Police Headquarters in a ceremony to honor his service at a date yet to be determined.
