The Norwalk Philatelic Exhibition, or NORPEX, is free and open to the public.

In keeping with tradition, the Norwalk Stamp Club will offer a special cachet and cancellation during the show. Nationally prominent illustrator and stamp designer Christopher Calle will be on hand. He designed a colorful souvenir envelope, that complements 2011 the Mark Twain stamp issued by the U.S. Postal Service.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name Mark Twain, was a resident of Connecticut for his last 30 years. His Hartford residence, from 1874 to 1891, is now known as the Mark Twain House and Museum. He lived in Redding from 1908 until his death in 1910. The Redding house was destroyed by fire in 1923. But the town library, now known as the Mark Twain Library, after its founder, contains many artifacts once owned by Clemens.

A special booth will cater to young people and beginners. The Postal Service will be on hand with many unusual philatelic items, as well offering current commemorative stamps. As many as 12 world-class stamp dealers with a global inventory of more than 750,000 stamps and other philatelic material will set up booths, said John Leskovsky, the club's president.

Calle will autograph copies of this year's show cover. His U.S. postage stamp designs include such popular works as the 25th anniversary of the moon landing and the 1988 Connecticut statehood stamp.

Show covers with the Mark Twain Forever stamp or the Tom Sawyer stamp are $2.50, and a limited number with both of these stamps cost $3. Orders, along with a large self-addressed stamped envelope should be sent to Norwalk Stamp Club, P.O. Box 267-F, Norwalk, CT 06856-0267.

The show will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Norwalk Senior Center, 11 Allen Road. For more information about the Norwalk Stamp Club, visit its website.
