GREENWICH, Conn. -- Hundreds showed their support at Greenwich Hospital's annual OCEAN gala fundraiser Oct. 24.
The gala featured marine-themed festivities at Greenwich Country Club and more than 350 attendees. OCEAN raised $900,000 for the hospital's oncology services.
Best-selling author Joan Lunden emceed the gala and shared her personal experience with breast cancer.
“I remember as a little girl when my family would be out at a restaurant or on the street in our hometown, families would stop us and embrace my dad and thank him," Lunden said of her cancer surgeon father. "They would say ‘young lady, do you realize how important your daddy is to our family?’ Now I do."
Greenwich Hospital president Norman Roth honored Terry Betteridge, CEO of Betteridge Fine Jewelers, for his service to the hospital and community with the President's Award.
“Terry’s business values are closely aligned with the core values we champion at Greenwich Hospital,” Roth said. “There are too many instances of Terry’s generosity to mention tonight. This award represents the enormous and genuine gratitude Greenwich Hospital feels for this remarkable man.”
