Catch Area Musicians At 'Barbara's Serenade' In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Musicians from Stamford, Bridgeport, Stratford and Greenwich will come together Wednesday for Barbara's Serenade at Stamford's Villa Italia Ristorante & Bar.

Barbara’s Serenade features the sounds of jazz, blues and Latin music with Barbara Occhino on vocals, Steve Clarke on bass, Jim Olbrys on guitar, and Al Brooks on sax/flute. 

The show is free and takes place from 7:30-9:30 p.m. 

Occhino, a multilingual singer, is known to bring her dynamic energy to every performance with jazz, blues, pop, R&B, American songbook, international favorites, and more.She has been a session vocalist in New York and Connecticut recording studios and has performed with theater, dance and choral troupes.

Clarke, of Bridgeport, has toured in the U.S. and Europe and recorded seven funk-Jazz CDs under his own label, Hop-N-Bop Records, with the latest featuring guitarist Mike Stern. He performs with the two-time Grammy-nominated jazz flautist Sherry Winston, and has performed with Marion Meadows, Victor Fields, Tom Browne, Esteban, Ben E King, The Drifters, The Five Satins and Sam & Dave. He has recorded on 55 other CDs as well.

Olbrys is a guitarist from Stratford who has performed at venues like CBGB, Texas Lone Star Road House and The Bitter End. He has recorded three CDs with singer/ songwriter/filmmaker Ned Farr: "The Good Red Road," and "Desert Motel," both of which are in the soundtrack of Farr’s award-winning film, and "The Ghost of It All," still in production.

Greenwich Brooks is a saxophonist (tenor and alto) and flutist who has played for over 20 years with various bands in diverse music styles (jazz, dance, Latin, Big Band). He performs with the Jump Start Big Band, his own SoJourn jazz group, and the Lehman College Jazz Band.
