Some 150 volunteers are essential to running the festival, which this year is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 21, at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich, Conn.

Seven thousand people are expected to join their four-legged friends for the festival. Interested individuals are encouraged to attend a meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Glenville Fire Station on Glenville Road in Greenwich.

Volunteer assignments include gate attendants, silent auction help, judging ring assistants and more.

Volunteers also are asked to register online at www.adoptadog.org; the registration deadline is Sunday, Sept. 14.

Adopt-A-Dog cannot accommodate unregistered volunteers the day of the event. The Puttin’ on the Dog Festival is Adopt-A-Dog’s primary source of generating the funds necessary to operate the sanctuary in Armonk.

The festival on Sept. 21 runs from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and includes demonstrations, competitions, displays and activities for children and the entire family.
