Colson Whitehead, a noted author, will visit Purchase College on Thursday, March 19.

The event is free and open to the public. It will take place in the Performing Arts Center Recital Hall at Purchase College, 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase.

Part of the Durst Distinguished Lecture Series, the program is supported by an endowment from the Durst family, longtime benefactors of Purchase College.

Whitehead is the author of several highly acclaimed books and is the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and a Whiting Writers Award, among other accolades.

"Colson Whitehead is a superb writer,” says Anthony Domestico, assistant professor of literature at Purchase College. “His work bounces between genres and styles but always focuses on a core set of issues: race and class, myth and history. He's also a wonderful speaker, and Purchase is lucky to have him visit."

A gift from the late Shirley Durst established an endowed fund to support the Durst Chair in Literature, awarded to notable professors whose work bridges literature and the visual or performing arts, as well as the Durst Distinguished Lecture Series.
