Stockman, who has owned a home in Greenwich, turns 69 on Tuesday. The politician and businessman was born Nov. 10, 1946, in Fort Hood, Texas.

Stockman served as special assistant to a U.S. representative and was executive director of the U.S. House of Representatives Republican Conference from 1972 to 1975.

He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for the 95th Congress and served as a Republican U.S. Representative from Michigan from 1977 to 1981. He also served as director of the Office of Management and Budget from 1981 to 1985) and became one of the most controversial OMB directors ever during a tenure that lasted until August 1985.

In 1981, he received the Samuel S. Beard Award from Jefferson Awards for Greatest Public Service. After leaving government, he joined the Wall Street investment bank Salomon Brothers and later became a partner of the New York-based private equity company, the Blackstone Group.

He started his own private equity fund company, Heartland Industrial Partners, based in Greenwich, and created four portfolio companies: Springs Industries, Metaldyne, Collins & Aikman, and TriMas.

In March 2014, Stockman launched a web-based daily periodical, David Stockman's Contra Corner, featuring both his own articles and those from leading contrarian thinkers on geopolitics, economics, and finance.
