ZenRide Opens As Fairfield's First Boutique Spinning Studio

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Spinning has been Jessica Gray’s passion for the last 20 years. Now she’s brought ZenRide, the first boutique spinning studio, to Fairfield.

Jennifer Gray, owner of ZenRide, is the first person to open a boutique spinning studio in Fairfield. It's located in the Bobs Shopping Center off the Post Road.

“For me, I wanted to create that high-quality experience of spinning for people who are either new to spinning or focused on spinning already, but who want an alternative,” Gray said.

She discovered spinning when she injured her knee while training for a marathon. “I was hooked pretty quickly,” she said.

And after 13 years of teaching across Fairfield County and Manhattan, she thought, “I’m ready to start my own business.” On Jan. 1, she started planning, then signed a lease in the spring and officially opened the doors of ZenRide on Aug. 15.

A month late, Gray said she has already exceeded several of her goals. She is settling in to the community, and the studio already has gained regulars.

Gray was certified, and ZenRide was certified, by MadDogg Athletics in 2000 and wants to remain true to founder Johnnny G’s mind-body-spirit approach to spinning.

“I’m more a loyalist to the original,” Grey said when asked about her teaching style. “I think there is plenty to work with within the traditional style.”

Offering class titles such as "ZenTensity” and “Total Body Zen,” she hopes to bring in the idea that spinning can be a full mind and body experience. “The more you can relax in the ride, the more efficient workout you’ll get,” she said.

Another reason she said she didn’t want to “reinvent the wheel” when it comes to spinning classes was that there are already several other boutique spinning studios that have done it well, like Joy Ride in Westport or Soul Cycle in Greenwich.

“Fairfield doesn’t have a spinning studio, so ZenRide is the first dedicated spinning studio here,” she said, saying it is something that people have come to expect. "We're creating a community within a community."
