GREENWICH, Conn. -- Sam Bridge Nursery & Greenhouses in Greenwich recently broke ground on a new facility as the family-owned business looks to expand.

Two generations of Bridges are building a new Nexus Greenhouse that will house a new store, a new retail area, new growing range and a new potting area. The new greenhouse is set for completion in time for spring shopping.

"In addition to improving efficiency - the new facility will collect roof runoff which will be recirculated and then used for irrigation," a press release said. "It also will be more energy efficient; they will be applying zone heating (only areas where plants are located will be heated), heat curtains will be used to retain heat at night and a new open roof in the greenhouse will eliminate the need for cooling fans.

"The family is excited to be implementing improvements that will enable a third generation of Bridge’s to grow their business."
