Job postings for March on AllCountyJobs.com were down 10 percent compared with February, the second straight month with a double-digit dip. Specific numbers were not released, but the site averages about 100,000 unique visitors per month.

“The March numbers are in our view an indication that the job market in Fairfield County has cooled some,” David Lewis, CEO of AllCountyJobs.com, said in a statement.

Employment figures for the entire United States were also disappointing in March, with the country creating about 88,000 new jobs, a little more than half of the average of 169,000 per month over the past year, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Connecticut’s unemployment rate has hovered in the 8 percent range for over a year, and the county has fared slightly better at about 7.7 percent. But state and county data for March has not yet been released.

The hottest job markets in the county were in Stamford, Norwalk, Greenwich and Westport. Leading the way with the highest volume of postings were jobs in administrative, accounting and human resources, according to the site.

“The lack of any one emerging industry and business type as a dominant growth engine in the area economy is leaving the job market a bit rudderless right now,” said Lewis. “That being said the fact that hiring in Human Resources could be a precursor to more active hiring by area employers in the coming months.”
