Horseneck Wines Toasts Its Greenwich Patrons

GREENWICH, Conn. — Like most houseguests, Terry Rogers always presents her hostess with a bottle of wine when she attends a party.

The owner of Horseneck Wines & Liquors in Greenwich also makes that hospitable gesture on a much larger scale, frequently donating wines to Greenwich community groups as a thank-you for their continued patronage over the past 20 years.

“I’ve lived here since 1986, and the community has supported my employees and me,” she said. "You can’t take that for granted.”

At the Greenwich Symphony’s annual October fundraising gala, for example, Rogers and her team supplied over 80 wines from all over the world to its guests. She also makes small donations to the North Street School Parent Teacher Association, contributes to the Bruce Museum by providing auction items, and brings wine to the YWCA of Greenwich Old Bags Luncheon every spring.

Rogers and her team at Horseneck Wines and Liquors have also lent their services to the Greenwich Land Trust, the Greenwich Tree Conservatory and the Greenwich Historical Society.

“I’ve seen my customers have children, I’ve seen those children get married, and then seen those children have their own children,” Rogers said. “This is my family.”

This past May, she brought the party back to her house when she hosted a fundraiser for Stand for the Troops, an organization that helps provide care for soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder.

“I made dinner for 39 people,” she said. “I basically gave them my house and allowed them to invite as many people as they wanted.”

Rogers estimates that Horseneck Wine & Liquor donates around $200,000 in goods and services each year. The store is located at 25 E. Putnam Ave.
