The special day of shopping, dining and education highlights Breast Cancer Awareness Month in partnership with the Greenwich-based Breast Cancer Alliance (BCA).

Participating merchants will display window signs and donate part of their proceeds to the BCA. Many will extend the benefits through the month and donate items to BCA’s annual luncheon auction on Oct. 26.

“We are so grateful for the overwhelming and passionate support from the community and the large number of merchants who enthusiastically participate in GoForPink,” said GoForPink Chair Loren Taufield. “It is a great day to spend with friends and family to shop, dine and support our generous local merchants partnering with BCA as we rally together towards the goal of a cure.”

Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei will kick off the day with a 9 a.m. flag-raising ceremony at Greenwich Town Hall. Barbara Ward, M.D., director of Breast Care Services at Greenwich Hospital, will speak on the importance of making a difference in the fight.

The ceremony will be followed by a 10 a.m. breakfast at Richards featuring a talk by Marisa Weiss, M.D., chief medical officer and founder of breastcancer.org.

Since its inception in 1996, BCA has awarded more than $22 million in grants and is one of the preeminent breast cancer foundations in the country.
