DANBURY, Conn. — The exterior of the new Hotel Zero Degrees in Danbury plays on its natural surroundings by evoking the feeling of a great lodge through its architecture.

The new boutique hotel at 15 Milestone Road is surrounded by the woods of The Reserve on Danbury's West Side of Danbury. Last week, city officials joined business leaders in welcoming Hotel Zero Degrees to the city.

“It’s always good to see something good for the city come in,” Roger Palanzo, director of the City’s Office of Economic Development, said before the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “It’s a beautiful place.”

Stephen Bull, president of the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce, hailed the new hotel at the grand opening.

“It says, Danbury is open for business,” Bull said.

Randy Salvatore, CEO of Stamford-based RMS Cos., expressed gratitude toward Mayor Mark Boughton and other city officials who worked with his company in developing the property.

“I look forward to working with you on other development projects in the city of Danbury for years to come,” Salvatore said. “We’ve been treated objectively and fairly. You’ve created a business-friendly environment here.”

Charles Mallory, founder of Greenwich Hospitality Group, partnered with Salvatore and RMS to bring Hotel Zero Degrees to Danbury.

“This could be a prototype for future hotels in many competitive markets,” Mallory said. “The green space and views around it — we should be very proud that a great hotel is coming in.”

Boughton made note of the many city officials in attendance, saying, “The city’s here because we support business.”

“The No. 1 focus for my administration is business,” Boughton said. “That’s why we have the lowest unemployment in the state, we have the lowest crime rate in the state. These things don’t just happen by accident.”

The Danbury location is the third one for Hotel Zero Degrees, a boutique brand that has properties in Norwalk and Stamford.

The new hotel features 114 unique guest rooms, including 27 extended stay suites in a relaxing natural setting. The hotel has over 3,500 square feet of indoor event space, including a 2,600-square-foot ballroom as well as an expansive outdoor patio for casual dining or larger functions.

Also opening on the site in about a month will be a restaurant, Terra of Danbury, operated by Z Hospitality Group. It will join the company's other restaurants, Mediterraneo, Terra and East End in Greenwich; Sole’ in New Canaan; Mediterraneo at Hotel Zero Degrees in Norwalk; Aurora in Rye, N.Y., and the coming soon Mediterraneo of White Plains, N.Y. The restaurant will serve both lunch and dinner, as well as cater all corporate and social functions.
