The $2.5 million project is part of a partnership with Yale-New Haven's Smilow Cancer Hospital. The partnership and the renovated facility will allow Yale Cancer Center specialists to work collaboratively with oncologists and specialists from Greenwich.

The renovations include a re-designed floor plan, new therapy areas with flat-screen televisions and chairs with blankets hand-knit by volunteers.

Dr. Thomas Lynch, Jr., director of Yale Cancer Center, Frank Corvino, president and CEO of Greenwich Hospital, and Dr. Dickerman Hollister Jr., medical director of the Bendheim Cancer Center cut the ribbon together to open the renovated facility.

"Our affiliation with Yale New Haven Health System and the Yale School of Medicine has allowed us to expand and enhance treatment options and types of cancer we can treat," Corvino said in a press release. "Through our relationship with Smilow, we've added another level of care to the already outstanding array of cancer resources that are available to the hospital."

The Greenwich Hospital Campus of the Smilow Cancer Hospital is Yale-New Haven Health's ninth branch in the region.

"We are delighted to team up and collaborate more extensively with the excellent clinicians from Smilow and Yale Cancer Center," Hollister said in the release.
