Darien Man Launches Deal Site For Beverages

DARIEN, Conn. – If you’re trying to figure out where to go for a drink with your friends this weekend, Darien resident Dan Miller’s new site BevBucks.com might help narrow down the options. The site allows customers to purchase special promotional deals for local bars, restaurants and liquor stores.

The site is similar to other daily deal sites such as Groupon or Living Social. Customers can purchase vouchers online for specific discounts or events at bars and retail stores. They then print the voucher out and present it to their server or clerk, or display the voucher directly on their smartphones to get the deal.

Miller, who used to work in banking, got the idea when looking at the other daily deal sites. “I noticed that a lot of the things they offered were not really relevant to me,” he said. Restaurants tended to offer deals only on higher priced items, and bar deals were often not very structured.

Miller says BevBucks works with venues and suppliers so that the deals are unique. Bars could host sampling nights of specific products in order to draw people out and offer something they haven’t tried before. “It’s more promotional than just a straight discount,” Miller said.

Miller launched the site about four months ago in New York, and recently expanded to Fairfield County. He said that BevBucks is aiming for a younger demographic than most other deal sites, and for an even split of men and women, whereas other deal sites tend to attract women. They will be coordinating an event Wednesday night at Bar Q in Stamford for the launch of Batch 19 beer.
