“We were looking for a larger space, a higher-profile retail location and a more vibrant commercial community,’’ said Macchio, whose store was in Westport for three years. “Every single one of those boxes has been checked, and we have like-minded consumers across from us at Whole Foods. We’re just so happy to be here. It’s a good fit for us.”
The Clean Bedroom offers organic mattresses, bedroom furniture and organic products in bedding and pillows, baby nursery, bath and spa, and pet beds. It also has mattress toppers, pads and encasing and bedroom décor and accessories.
The expanded location in Greenwich offers more room for the business to showcase its products.
“We wanted to have much more on the floor,’’ Macchio said. “We have the newer models that we wanted to showcase. We just weren’t able to offer the breadth of exposure. We’re able to have more bedding items on the floor for grab-and-go shoppers, and we can accommodate more inventory.”
Macchio said when the business searched for a new location, “all arrows pointed to Greenwich. We have a good client base in Westchester, and it’s centrally located for our online shoppers. Typically, we’ll have customers come from one or two hours away. We needed to find a location that was easy for customers to get to and fill the needs of our customer base.”
The Clean Bedroom held a grand opening last month, and Macchio said all early indicators point to an extended stay in Greenwich. Organic mattresses, with their all-natural material, are quickly becoming a popular alternative to foam mattresses. The Clean Bedroom, which has seven showrooms in the United States, is the fastest-growing organic mattress retailer in the nation, according to its website.
“We’ve had double digit growth on sales of organic mattresses,’’ Macchio said. “Customers are coming in highly educated and ready to shop. They’re happy to see how many brands we have to offer.”
