MakerBot also has a store in New York. The business was named one of The World’s Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Consumer Electronics, by Fast Company magazine earlier this year, and the company has grown tremendously in the past year, going from 100 employees 12 months ago, to 400 today.

The MakerBot retail stores are open for the public to experience the MakerBot® Replicator® 2 Desktop 3D Printer and the MakerBot® Digitizer™ Desktop 3D Scanner, as well as other amazing 3D printed gifts and displays.

“We are very excited to open two new MakerBot retail stores,” said Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot.  “We opened our first MakerBot retail store last year because we wanted to provide a place where you could step inside the future and see, touch, and even smell 3D printing.”

Pettis noted that the MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer uses MakerBot PLA Filament, a bioplastic made out of corn, that actually emits a pleasant scent when 3D printing and fills the MakerBot Store with the aroma of waffles or syrup.

In addition to The MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer and MakerBot Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner will also be available for immediate purchase at the MakerBot Store, as will MakerBot PLA and an assortment of ABS Filament, available in more than 30 colors.

MakerBot is located at 72 Greenwich Ave. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The store is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m on Sundays.
